Helpline
Got a problem with your car but don't know who to complain to? Too busy to draft a letter? Let What Car? help out.
In any dispute, whatever the cause:
- Keep a log of all telephone calls made and received, noting time, date, full name, phone number and job of person calling or called. Take notes of what was said. If the dispute has to go to court, all this may swing the case your way.
- File any letters sent and received, and bills paid.
- Never agree to anything immediately if you feel at all unsure. It's always best to think for a moment then call back. If the garage says they need an answer immediately, that's their problem, not yours.
- If you belong to the AA or RAC, call their advice lines for help.
- Be firm, but stay cool. If needs be, note down the points you wish to cover before making a tricky call. It will help you put your case forcefully.
